Malabar Spinach on The New Plastic Trellis
I have a large garden but I prefer to have a clean look, as much as I possibly can. Its nice to have space for the kids to run around, throw some balls, badminton and splash water for fun.
Most of the vegetables and herbs are grown on the sides, front and back of the house. This keeps most of the space free.
One of the vegetable which is easy to grow and I have been doing it for the last few months is the Sweet Potato leaves. In its natural state, it requires a huge area to crawl. Instead of that, I have made trellis for it to grow upwards. It grows like wildfire! Excited with the ease to grow the Sweet Potato leaves, I wanted to duplicate my success. I also wanted to grow the Malabar Spinach. There are two varieties. Green and purple vine. I am growing both.
The new trellis is made of plastic pipe and joint together. I used 2 ft metal rod nailed to the ground and the trellis slot onto it to ensure that its strong. At least strong enough when the Malabar Spinach and Sweet Potato leaves crawls vertically. It might even be a shade during hot or raining days.
The trellis is tied with nylon strings.
I can just imagine it in my mind, how beautiful this trellis will look when it has a fully grown vine. All green and lush. I feel so happy just thinking about it!

My Sweet Potato Leaves
My pride and joy is currently my Sweet Potato Leaves plant. It does not yield sweet potatoes but I harvest the leaves constantly....
..... in my Maggie Mee
..... in oyster sauce
.... in sambal
Its growing so bushy that I have been able to share it with my friends and neighbour... for a meal, anyway.
Its unbelievably easy to grow!
I cannot even begin to express how wonderful it feels to be able to pick my own vegetable fresh whenever I need to cook it. No need to worry about pesticide or going out to the supermarket. According to my internet research, the vitamins in Sweet Potato leaves are more nutritionally superior to spinach.

My Herbal Garden
Herb is something all cooks should not have to live without. I have for many years bought it from the market or lived with dried ones.
But I have decided to start my own herb garden. Its been great! Absolutely wonderful! Anytime I want to make tea or cook something, all I have to do is just go to my garden and grab a few leaves.
The herbs grow very well and does not require much tending other than basic fertilizer every now and then. In fact, it grows unruly and requires trimming, which I did today.
Daun Kesum - Nice for my Asam Pedas
Limau Purut - Nice for my Tom Yum soup and Rendang curry |
Curry Leaves |
Stevia - Nice to sweeten my Green Smoothie
My New Blog: Journey of My Garden
I am so glad to be getting another chance to blog about my garden. I was unable to get into my previous gardening blog i.e. Journey of My Gardening. In my genius state, I was able to forget the password and log in. I continue to amaze myself.
If you would like to read about what I wrote in my previous blog, go to Journey of My Gardening. It has many of my previous write-ups.
I have been very happy gardening and I will write up a post soon to update on my garden!
